3D Watermaze Homepage

Description

Biologists studying spacial learning in animals (normally rats) use what is called a "water maze". The maze consists of a pool of opaque liquid (usually water clouded with milk) and a platform somewhere in the pool just below the surface. An animal is placed in the pool and allowed to swim around until it finds the platform. Electrodes implanted in the animal's brain moniter neuron activity. The experiment is repeated, and as the animal learns how to orient itself by whatever visual aids are present, the neuronal activity adapts.

It is desirable to perform similar experiments on humans to study how our spacial learning works. This project aims to create an updated version of a program currently used to simulate the experiment. A human can "swim" around a digital pool and have their activity accurately recorded.
